Rare Bird’s About Time IPA
Bottoms Up
By Craig Manning | Aug. 29, 2026
We were Heartbroken with a capital H back in April, when Rare Bird Brewpub suffered a fire that forced the beloved Traverse City spot to close its doors temporarily. Fortunately, damage was minimal enough that Rare Bird was able to reopen in early July. We would have raised our glasses in honor of this particular comeback no matter what, but we’re extra happy to do it with a glass of About Time, the beer Rare Bird made to commemorate its grand return. A punchy IPA with an 8.4 percent ABV, the fittingly named About Time is the best new IPA we’ve had at a local brewery this year, with a juicy, fruity flavor profile that balances perfectly with the beer’s blend of Citra, Idaho 7, and Sabro hops. Get a pour at 229 Lake Ave. in Traverse City. rarebirdbrewpub.com
