The Gateway to Gaylord

Stuff We Love
July 20, 2024

Thanks to the vision of Gaylord Area Council for the Arts and artist Chris Gibson, Gaylord is getting a proper glow-up! Work began on the “Gateway Mural” on July 3 as a lakeside scene unfolded on a 100-foot long wall alongside the Gaylord Gateway Trailhead of the North Central State Trail in downtown. Telling the story of winter, spring, summer and fall, the mural features snowy pines, morel mushrooms, rolling waves, and an array of wildlife in nods to Gaylord’s natural beauty throughout the seasons. The mural was completed on July 8 and aligns with the Gaylord Area Council for the Arts’ ongoing Art in the Alley project, which “transforms a 3-block downtown blighted alleyway into a gathering space that will connect the Iron Bell trailhead (west end) to the Claude Shannon Park (east end)” per the council’s website.
