Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic Heads Into the Woods

Modern Rock

Former Nirvana bass player Krist Novoselic has a new band called Giants in the Trees, and the newbie quartet has just dropped a lo-fi music video for its debut tune, “Sasquatch.” In the video, the bandmates clamber around on old tree trunks as the song — alternative rock with a hint of blues and a dash of harmonica — careens through lyrics about sneaky eyes watching the band in the forest. The band formed last year when the four musicians met up at a local environmental event in their home state of Washington …

Sept. 23 is the date set for this year’s Global Citizen Festival, the annual free (and massive) event that takes place on the Great Lawn in Central Park in New York City. Attendees can take virtual “Action Journeys” through the official Global Citizen app, which helps bring awareness to such issues as food security, health care, education, poverty, and more. While fans are getting global, they’ll also be treated to music performances from a long list of big names. This year’s headliners include Stevie Wonder, The Killers, The Chainsmokers, The Lumineers, Pharrell Williams, and Detroit’s own Big Sean. If you can’t make it to NYC, you can watch the concert live on MSNBC’s cable channel, and at msnbc.com

A little bit of country music — part of Cyrus’ roots with her dad, country performer Billy Ray Cyrus — will be part of Younger Now’s tunes …
